I admit it, I can be a flake. It’s not because I don’t want to hang out with the people who invite me to do things, it’s not because I’m too busy or too stressed, it’s not even because I generally prefer being alone to being with others. It’s because I’m very good at talking myself out of doing anything slightly outside of my comfort zone.
But here’s what I’ve learned: 9 times out of 10, I’ll regret not doing something much more than I’ll regret doing something and it not being fun. So, in the last couple of weeks I’ve tried to shut up the voice in my head that tries to persuade me from leaving my apartment bubble, and you know what? I’ve come to realize something- action comes before motivation. The more I force myself to just do things before I can flake out, the more happy, energized, adventurous, and motivation I feel which in turn ends up building my confidence. And who would turn a cold shoulder to a higher self esteem?
So I challenge you: next time you’re making up excuses about being too tired, or too busy, or too stressed to do something new, stop thinking about all the reasons not to do it, think about all the reasons to do it, and then take a leap of faith and just do it.
